A band that you must know very well not only for their intense touring all over the globe, but also for their tireless release of their records. After all, only at the Obscene Extreme festival, this extreme quartet will crush their songs for the third time!!!
High octane death metal with a large dose of hardcore and great technical skills, that's exactly what MISERY INDEX is!!! They've been around since 2001 and they're definitely not going to retire. This sonic brutality will convince you of that nowhere else than at Trutnov Battlefield. No mercy!!!
Bio
Since 2001, Misery Index have released 7 studio albums (plus 1 live album and 2 compilations) and performed over 1500 concerts in 46 countries. The band began as a studio project in 2001, when vocalist and bassist Jason Netherton (ex DYING FETUS) joined together with guitarist Mike Harrison and drummer Kevin Talley (ex DYING FETUS) to record their debut EP "Overthrow". The five song death/grind attack received considerable praise, shifting Misery Index into a full time band with the addition of Sparky Voyles (ex DYING FETUS) on guitar.
In 2003, the band released their debut full length "Retaliate" on Nuclear Blast records, followed by numerous tours in Europe and North America supporting bands such as DYING FETUS,
AMON AMARTH, DEICIDE, and NILE.
In 2004, Adam Jarvis (also currently of PIG DESTROYER) took over on drums, and later in 2005, guitarist Mark Kloeppel (ex CAST THE STONE) joined, solidifying the line u p for years to come.
In 2006, the second full length "Discordia" was released on Relapse Records, followed by a seven week EU tour supporting Fear Factory, as well as first time appearances at the Hellfest and Tuska open airs.
In 2008, recordings for their third album commenced with Kurt Ballou (CONVERGE) at God City Studios. The result was "Traitors", which was released in September (again on Relapse Records) to much praise while showcasing an exceptional return to form. In 2008 and 2009, the band toured extensively, supporting bands such as THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER and
CANNIBAL CORPSE, as well as seeing their first trips to places like Mexico, Russia and Iceland, and first time appearances on the Extreme the Dojo festivals in Japan and Summer Breeze in Germany.
Misery Index then released "Heirs to Thievery" in May 2010, dropping like a bomb on the death metal masses and shattering all expectations. The album was both a commercial and critical success, elevating the band into headlining slots in both Europe and the United States. 2010 also saw the departure of long time guitarist Sparky Voyles, who was replaced by Darin Morris, solidifying the 4 member lineup that still stands today.
In 2011 - 12, Misery Index made their first visit to countries such as Colombia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia as well as supporting CANNIBAL CORPSE on their "Torture" tour in both the US and Europe. While in Munich in 2012, Germany, the band also recorded their first live album, released by Season of Mist in February 2013.
In 2014 the band recorded and released "The Killing Gods", also released via the French label Season of Mist. The album was their most critically acclaimed and top selling album to date, and was followed by two videos for the songs "The Calling" and "The Harrowing," as well as two European headlining tours and supporting runs with NAPALM DEATH and THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER.
In 2018 (after a US tour with MORBID ANGEL) the band entered the studio once more to record their sixth album "Rituals of Power", which was released with Season of Mist on March 8 2019. Featuring the singles "New Salem", "The Choir Invisible" and "Hammering the Nails", the album was the band’s highest charting and best selling release to date. In 2019 the band did an EU headlining tour with support from WORMROT and then a US tour with NAILS.
In February 2020, the band hit the EU again on the month long "Campaign for Musical Destruction" in support of NAPALM DEATH. Notably, on the last date of the tour they were happy to announce they had signed to Century Media Records.
In May 2022, their seventh studio album titled “Complete Control” was released to widespread acclaim, featuring the singles / videos for “The Eaters and the Eaten” and the title track “Complete Control”. After extensive touring throughout 2022
2023, the band is once more entering the songwriting phase with recordings for album number eight (also for Century Media) set for spring of 2024.
