Bio

The beginning of the band Thorwald from Košice, east Slovakia, could be traced back to 1999. The founding members Wurma, Boris, Kamil and Swan had a goal to play fast and loud and cry their message, oriented mostly to social and environmental topics, to the world. After a year of existence and the first shows the band launches its 1st demo “Terraforming 002”. But after a couple next months a major line-up comes, with bass guitarist Wurma as the only original member, and the new guitarist Saky and drummer Patrik, who was playing in band called Decompostion. Some time after that the new vocalist Gabi joins the band and after all this change the band takes also the new, quite different musical direction focused mainly on gore and splatter themes. In this line-up and between 2001 – 2005 the band releases split CD with French Pulmonary Fibrosis in 2003 and 3-way split CD with their kindreds Decomposition and Tasmanian death/grind band Corpse Carving. But after the recording Patrik leaves the band for better living opportunities outland and his post is taken by founding member Boris, the ex-guitarist, who comes back, playing guitar in another Košice grind core band in the meantime. The new material is in works, Thorwald are playing the gigs and everything looks like the beginning of bright future, when all is paralysed by terrible news about Boris being diagnosed with lymphatic cancer, and in spite of medical treatment the disease takes his life in autumn 2006.  Thorwald lost a talented musician and good man and the result was a temporary 3-year pause. Wurma spent that time playing in grind core band Mizar for a short time, and then in gore metal band Cruent. Gabi went for Obliterate and then also joined the bands Killchain, Epitome and Ataraxia.

The year 2009 could be marked as a rebirth and the fundamental impulse to it comes from Patrik who returned home from abroad and suggested Wurma to wake Thorwald from its sleep. The new line-up was complete very soon, when this duo was joined by guitarist Fuko and vocalist Miki, both previously played in the band called Redrum. In the year 2010 Bindi, the longtime supporter and non-playing captain joins the band as the 2nd vocalist. The new material is released in 2012 on CD “Čiernobiele Prasa”.  After a two-year period Patrik left for work abroad again, and there is a period when the band does not have an adequate replacement for the drummer. Several drummers were tried as the replacements, but no one has fit into the band more permanently. Not only because of that the new material is almost complete, the band has does not think about splitting-up and with the help of sampled drums the EP “Kolízie systému” is recorded, being released on vinyl in 2016. In 2015 Kubo (Killchain) takes the post of drummer and the line-up is complete again. The new EP “Sací reflex” is recorded in 2018 and released together with previous recording. The following years are spent with playing the shows and preparation of new material, which is recorded during the pandemic period and released under the name "Diablov tanec" as CD in the spring 2022 and as LP in early 2023.
