Bio
AVULSED began its journey in August 1991, when Dave Rotten, upon finishing his 3-year voluntary military service, decided to form a Death Metal band, for which he recruited two friends (Tony and Lucky), thus being a trio for several years. months until the incorporation of two guitarists during 1992.
The group has developed their personal style of Death Metal through several demos ("Embalmed in Blood"-'92, "Deformed Beyond Belief"-'93 and "Promo'95"), a 7" EP ("Carnivoracity"- '94) which was later reissued as a mini CD ("Carnivoracity"-'95) until they recorded their debut album ("Eminence in Putrescence"-'96) through Repulse Rec. in which the band shows their sound, pure Death Metal mixing heavy and brutal rhythms with melodic parts, being the first Spanish extreme Metal band to obtain a contract not only with one foreign label, but with two, in '93 for the release of their 7"EP and split 12"LP that were published in '94.
With the remix CD "Cybergore" ('98), the band experimented with mixing industrial sounds from those years, with their traditional sound of Death Metal guitars and vocals resulting in a work loved and hated in equal parts. In September '99, all of their demos and rare unreleased material were released in the form of a CD titled "Seven Years of Decay" ('99) through the Colombian label Quirófano Prod.
The second album "Stabwound Orgasm" ('99), is recorded at Spacelab Studios, Kempen (Germany) to ensure first class production and is mastered by James Murphy (ex-Death, Cancer, Testament...) in California. Again released by Repulse Rec., this work doubled the sales of its predecessor and was licensed by different labels in South America (Sylphorium), USA/Canada (World War III) and Russia (IronD), being the most acclaimed album, which catapulted to the band worldwide. In January 2001, AVULSED returned to the studio to record 4 versions for as many tribute albums that were never released and were finally released in the form of a self-produced mini CD ("Bloodcovered"-'01) and limited to 500 copies only to through the band itself.
In August '02, the band traveled again to Spacelab Studios in Germany to record their third album "Yearning for the Grotesque" which was released in February '03 through the Italian label AvantGarde Music after numerous delays due to rejection of several CD factories to reproduce such explicit material.
The band's 4th album "Gorespattered Suicide" was recorded in Madrid at VRS Studios and the masters were sent to Erik Rutan (Cannibal Corpse, Hate Eternal, ex-Morbid Angel) who mixed and mastered the album at his own Mana Recording Studios from Florida, being released in January 2005 by the Slovak label Metal Age Prod. with the subsequent tour of Japan (April '05), European festivals such as London DeathFest, Obscene Extreme (Czech Republic), Uncover Train Fest (Paris), plus a 15-date European tour in 11 countries as headliners alongside Italian grinders Grimness 69.
"Reanimations"-'06 released by Xtreem Music and shortly after also by Metal Age, it includes 2 new songs, a revision of a song from the first demo, plus 3 versions (WASP, Gorefest and Exodus) plus 8 bands playing versions of AVULSED's own songs. September '07 sees the release of AVULSED's first official DVD with "Reanimating Russia 2007" released by Coyote Rec., which was recorded in Moscow in June '07 during the band's second tour of Russia.
After three years of tours and festivals, Mexico '06, Russia '06 and '07, Bringer of Death (Ger), Neurotic Deathfest (Hol), Italia '07, Kaltenbach Open Air (Aus), Mountains of Death (Swi), among many others, AVULSED focuses on their 5th full album "Nullo (The Pleasure of Self-Mutilation)" ('09) recorded in Madrid at Room 101 Studios between October '08 and May '09 with Javier Fernández (The Heretic/ Nexus 6) as a sound engineer and producer alongside the band itself, resulting in the most aggressive, direct, and complete work of his career!! Including all the band's characteristic elements of brutal, catchy, intense and heavy Death Metal that give the band's already unmistakable character!! Including art and design by Mike Hrubovcak (Grave, Monstrosity, Mortician, Cattle Decapitation...). This album was released in June '09 simultaneously through Xtreem Music and Metal Age Prod. in Europe, Coyote Rec. in Russia and by Ibex Moon Rec. in the USA, American Line Prod. in Mexico/Central America and Sylphorium for the South American territory.
In 2011, AVULSED offered excellent shows at renowned festivals such as Maryland Deathfest (USA), Way of Darkness (Germany), Killtown Deathfest (Denmark) and Altavoz (Colombia). In any case, 2012 did not start well for the band, who, immersed in the writing process for a new album, had to make the difficult decision to do without their drummer Riky. Just a month later Osckar Bravo joined the band as the new drummer and AVULSED continued working, harder than ever, to compose new material and thus complete the 6th album "Ritual Zombi" which was recorded during the first half of 2013 and being released on September 1 in a never-before-seen orchestrated simultaneous edition in 10 different editions (seven on CD, one on 12"LP, one on cassette and digital) on 9 different labels around the world.
After an intense tour presenting the album "Ritual Zombi", in July 2014 the band decided again to do without their drummer Osckar Bravo and immediately found a replacement in Erik Raya with whom they continued touring and released the acclaimed EP "Altar of Disembowelment" in September 2015 followed by a complete tour of Europe with Natron and Prion. In December 2015, Erik was replaced by Arjan Van der Wijst who began playing live immediately afterwards and with whom the band recorded (during the spring of 2016) the 25th anniversary double album "Deathgeneration" which was released in November 2016. , a year in which the band has toured China, many shows in Spain and several large summer festivals in Spain and Europe as well as a tour through Europe in April 2017. In April of this same year the band released a double album in live in 2CD+DVD format titled "Night of the Living Deathgenerations" recorded during a special 25th anniversary show that took place in Madrid on 11/19/2016, as well as a split 7"EP with Mercyless.
2017 & 2018 had AVULSED playing shows throughout Spain, Europe (Russia, Portugal, Holland, UK, Germany, Italy...) and Mexico (4). In November 2018, drummer Arjan was replaced by Rafael Aritmendi, who was in the band until March 2020 when he was replaced by Jorge Utrera (Holycide) who participated in the recording of the EP "Extraterrestrial Carnage" released in June 2023 by Xtreem Music. That same month, Santi Arroyo "Gog" (also in Holycide) replaced Jorge Utrera on drums at the same time the band began writing songs for a new album. In January 2024, AVULSED played two shows on the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise, as well as returning to the USA for the Maryland Deathfest.
In June 2024, AVULSED experienced the biggest lineup change of its long career, seeing three of its members: Juancar, Cabra and Tana, leave at the same time due to their lack of interest in continuing to play in the band, which had not written a new album for 12 years. This left Dave Rotten, the only original member of the band since 1991, and Santi “Gog”, the most recent, as the only members interested in continuing to the death with AVULSED, and in just 5 days, after selecting musicians from among many candidates, the band found replacements in Alejandro Lobo (Krueger, Dissonath, ex-Gillman) on guitars and Alex Nihil (Sepulcration, Parsec, Umbraeternum...) on bass, being joined by Victor Dws (Endernity, Neuromancer) a couple of months later. With this new lineup, AVULSED got to work to finally record a new album at the end of 2024 to make up for lost time over the last decade. “Phoenix Cryptobiosis” which was released in all formats in March 2025 again through Xtreem Music. In October 2025, GoG was forced to leave the band because of personal reasons andNeuromancer, who already played 13 shows during 2025 with Avulsed (including the LATAM tour, Mexico and others), took the drumming duties, and the band is currently working on a special album to be recorded in winter 2025/2026 for a spring 2026 release as well and a new full length album for 2027.
When it comes to live performances, AVULSED has earned a reputation as one of the most intense, aggressive and fierce bands on stage. After more than 500 live performances around the world, including 6 full European tours (with Sinister-'96, with Incantation-'97 and headlining tours in '05, '09, '15 and '17) and even performing numerous jumps to the other side of the Atlantic to give 2 concerts in Colombia (2011), 2 in Venezuela (1999), a complete tour of 12 shows as headliners through Central America (2000) in countries like USA/California (2) , Mexico (4), Guatemala (2), El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, a headliner 12-shows tour in April 2025 playing in Chile (2), Perú, Ecuador, Colombia (4), Venezuela (2) & Mexico (2), and several in the USA to take part in the 70,000 Tons of Metal (2024), IX Maryland Deathfest (2011 and 2024) and III New Jersey Metal Meltdown (2001) and the as well as a complete 9-date tour in Mexico (2006) and another 4 in 2017, as well as 2 shows in Japan (2005), 2 shows in Turkey (2014), one in Indonesia at the Hammersonic Fest (2015), 3 in China (2016) and 5 tours in Russia ('06/'07/'09/'11/'18). As for large European festivals, AVULSED has participated in many of them such as Hellfest, Obscene Extreme, Brutal Assault, Alcatraz, Party.San,
Resurrection, Motocultor, Killtown, Barroselas Metalfest, Rock Machina, London Deathfest, Altavoz (Colombia), Fuck the Commerce, Czech Deathfest, Neutotic Deathfest, Kaltenbach, Leyendas, Protzen, Stonehenge, Barbarian, etc... in which the band has shared stages with hundreds of bands from big names like Iron Maiden, Slayer, Ozzy Osbourne or Napalm Death, Cannibal Corpse or Suffocation, to the most underground.
The story continues unstoppably for AVULSED after 35 years of uninterrupted devotion to something for which the band has become synonymous in its own right: DEATH METAL.
