"Hey!!!

Another year and another OEF hooray! It’s been 27 years since the very first edition, and that’s definitely something to celebrate. Huge thanks to everyone who has ever supported us and continue to do so! I say it every year and in every interview, but it’s only thanks to you that we can keep doing what we love. Together, we’re creating a truly independent festival that introduces tons of promising bands every year and brings the whole world together. Just take a look at this year’s line-up. Where else can you see bands from India, Vietnam, Australia, Colombia, Brazil, China, Mexico, Argentina, the United States (this year we’ll welcome no less than 20 (yes, TWENTY!!!) bands from there), and of course, from all across Europe? That’s right, only at Obscene Extreme!!!

We can feel your support even when things aren’t going our way... and for me, that means everything. Many of you have probably read my editorials in the three fanzines we published this year. These are incredibly tough times for us, and at times we feel like the proverbial Don Quixote de la Mancha... We’re dealing with a venue that’s been deteriorating for years, where repairs are endlessly promised and postponed until the next election cycle. It feels like a lost cause. I’ve said many times that we have NEVER asked any institution for subsidies or grants, and we’re genuinely proud of that!!! But at the same time, we believe that an owner should take proper care of their property... Just look at the cultural mega-institution UFFO Trutnov. Everything there runs like clockwork, and for such a small town it’s an absolutely amazing venue, supported year after year by the town, the region, and beyond. I doubt they have to fight for attention the way we do. So why do we keep at it? Because we’re reaching a breaking point... This town is our home, but lately we’ve been seriously considering other options. We’ve always promoted Trutnov with pride, bringing thousands of visitors here every year. People who, without exaggeration, experience some of the best days of their lives here (at least that’s what so many of you tell us). We believe we deserve at least a little respect. And above all, the legendary, yes, truly legendary Trutnov Battlefield deserves it too. This magical place simply deserves proper care.

Another major change, once again unfortunately not a positive one, is the large restaurant of Trautenberk Brewery built on the site of the former OEF grindmarket. I know I’m repeating myself, but the income from food and drink sales on site helps us cover the costs of what is, for us, a monstrously expensive event. By supporting that, you’re not just helping us, you’re also supporting all the vendors and the people who have been involved in running the festival for many years. Without their work and support, especially in these times when everything is getting dramatically more expensive (bands, crew, technical equipment, toilets, and so on), we simply couldn’t make it happen. So whether you decide to stop by Trautenberk for “a beer” is, of course, entirely up to you, but please give it some thought!!!

And what about the bands this year? Well, we’ve got a whole series of amazing debuts coming up. For example, the insanely active hardcore masters CONVERGE (they even released two albums this year!), the absolutely brilliant death metal of JUNGLE ROT performing here for the first time, punk as fuck legends DWARVES, and old school death done right by MURDER SQUAD (half DISMEMBER / half ENTOMBED!!!). Expect total carnage from FINAL CONFLICT, crossover madness from THE ACCUSED AD, and another absolutely essential death metal band this time from Colombia (one of the first in South America!), MASACRE. And what about PRO-PAIN? You might wonder what they’re doing at OEF, but I’ve seen them live in clubs a few times recently, and I have to say, they’re in great form and I’m sure they’ll go down brilliantly at OEF!!! Personally, I’m also really looking forward to NECROT!!! I’ve loved this band for the past few years ever since I first saw them in Oakland. I was completely hooked. I’ve been trying to bring them to OEF ever since, so finally, they’rehere!!!And then there are all those great returns - EYEHATEGOD, ROTTEN SOUND,DISMEMBER (!!!), MACABRE (!!!), BENIGHTED, ASSASSIN, WARCOLLAPSE, CENTINEX, VULVECTOMY... plus a bunch of bands you might not know that well yet. What about MORGUE BREATH, RETORSION, SULFURIC CAUTERY, CHOOF, DECORTICATE, VOR DIE HUNDE, MELTING ROT, LILIXELBE, PHANTOM, DUMMY TOYS... I could go on like this all the way to the very last band!!! I’m excited for all of them, and I’ll be glued to the stage from morning till night!!!

We’re also steadily working on the 2027 volume. The date is set, and I can already reveal that it’s shaping up to have an incredible line-up!!! It’s amazing to see the position we’ve reached over the years... Bands prepare thoroughly for their OEF shows and give it absolutely everything. Just the way we like it!!! We’re also seeing an explosion of new, young bands on our scene, and that makes us incredibly happy. After all, for many of them, playing Obscene Extreme is a dream and some bands have even been formed with that exact goal in mind. For us, that’s the greatest reward of all!!!
