IN FANS WE TRUST

We prepare Obscene Extreme throughout the entire year, and behind it lies an enormous amount of work, time, energy, and a handful of extreme music lovers. Band booking, logistics, accommodation, YouTube video production, merchandise, scheduling, crew coordination, stalls, catering, suppliers, venue preparation, administration, finance, marketing, interviews, and more. It's simply year-round work that goes unseen. Then, on-site, thousands of hours of work from countless dedicated people to keep the festival running.

Organising all of this obviously costs money. Video recording and editing alone costs us around 200,000 CZK per year, meaning that video production since 2010 has cost us over 1,000,000 CZK in total. OEF videos are watched by a lot of people, but not everyone makes it to the festival.

And that's just a small part of the costs. Every year, millions of crowns go into OEF preparations before we even open the gates. We pay bands from around the world, flights and transport, sound, lights and stage, venue rental, equipment, crew, accommodation, promotion, and much more. All so the festival can run the way you know it.

On top of that, we continue to provide services free of charge that other festivals charge for. Showers, phone charging, a kids' corner… These things cost money too, but we've chosen not to charge for them. We also support the bands themselves. Did you know we've never taken a percentage of band merch sales? It never even crossed our minds. Even though, like any independent, non-subsidised festival, we wrestle with the budget every single year, and it's a never-ending battle. How does it work at OEF? Bands either sell their merch themselves, or we help them sell it and we also pay the crew who look after the sales. All profits go directly to the bands. It feels like the natural thing to do, and we're glad we can help and support them.

We've kept this topic largely to ourselves for a long time, thinking about it for years. We didn't want OEF to become a project that asks for money. But the reality is that keeping an independent festival of this scale going is getting harder every year. That's exactly why we've decided to start talking about it and put the subject out there.
